Our story
The Rocking Horse Toy Shop began as a much-loved family business and little shop in the Lake District. We discovered it during a family visit and, in 2020, Mark and I took over the online side of the business just before the world changed through Covid.
After experiencing pregnancy loss, the opportunity to continue a business centred on childhood joy felt like a hopeful new chapter. Today, we are grateful parents to our rainbow baby, Skyla — now a lively toddler — and the shop is fully online from our home in North Yorkshire.
Parenthood has made our purpose simpler and more practical: to help families choose a special, age-appropriate toy that encourages movement, imagination and happy memories.

Toys that invite children to move and imagine
We believe the best toys leave room for children to lead the story. A rocking horse can become a racehorse, a woodland companion or simply a familiar friend in the nursery.
Our range is centred on rocking horses and animals, with walkers, ride-ons and smaller toys for different stages, spaces and gift occasions.
Thoughtful choices, honest claims
Many of the toys we choose are traditional and low-tech, and we look for suppliers using wood, textiles, recycled materials or reduced packaging where practical. Materials and packaging vary by product, so we describe them on individual listings rather than making broad environmental promises.
Where suitable, we reuse packaging in our own operation. Products sent directly by a supplier are packed and delivered by that supplier.
